Neptune - Triton

The Planet:

Far out in the vast expanse of the cosmos lies the enigmatic planet Neptune, known to the people of the stars as the Well. But it is not the planet itself that captures the attention of wanderers and explorers, but its faithful and formidable satellite, Triton.
Upon the surface of Triton, great cities have risen to dominate the lunar landscape, towering monuments of technological prowess and splendor. Gleaming spires and towering edifices made of rare and precious materials mark the homes of the wealthiest Tritons, their illuminating lights casting a brilliant glow across the surface of the satellite.
But not all who dwell on Triton are so fortunate. In the poorer quarters of the sprawling city, humble abodes and cramped apartments stand as testaments to the grit and resilience of the Tritons who call them home.
And yet, despite the riches and marvels of Triton, Neptune herself serves as a reserve of priceless resources, waiting to be harvested by enterprising spacefarers. Enormous pipes snake their way across the satellite's surface, extracting gases and diamonds from the depths of the Well. And from the orbital stations that loom above, massive starships depart with their precious cargo, bound for the far reaches of the galaxy.
Tritons:
The Tritons, a faction of cunning merchants and brilliant scientists, dominate the galaxy with their vast resources and unyielding ambition. They see themselves as the most advanced and worthy rulers of the universe, and their influence extends far beyond their home planet of Triton. The Great Merchants, the elite caste of Triton, spend their days scheming and negotiating at lavish banquets, wielding their power with the deftness of a master manipulator.
Religion holds no sway on Triton, where money and power reign supreme. The Tritons have learned to avoid direct conflict and instead use politics and commerce to achieve their goals. The Great Merchants control the city and virtually all of the planet's resources, granting the right to exploit Triton's land and resources only to those willing to pay their exorbitant fees. The size of the machinery used and the right to exploit the planet are dependent on the amount of money given to the Great Merchants.
The only other caste on Triton is that of the Grand Savants, the revered scientists who are also highly respected by the elite. Everyone, including the Great Merchants, donates annually to support the scientific advancements on the planet. While some experiments require living subjects, it is an honor and a rare opportunity to volunteer as a test subject, and families see it as a way to climb the social ladder. However, when there are not enough volunteers, lower-class residents may mysteriously disappear, with their families receiving compensation and no questions asked.
The Tritons' relationships with other factions are based on commercial exchange, as they produce and export raw materials needed by all. The Tritons do not transform the raw materials themselves and instead import a majority of the necessary products. The relationships with Alkyr are on the brink of war due to the Tritons' coveting of Alkyr's resources and the Alchys' lack of respect. Relations with Isker are cold, as they view the Tritons as a barbaric people who should serve as labor in their exploitations. The Tritons have a neutral partnership with the leaders of Kerin and very little contact with Gadara, as they are in total opposition.
The Tritons have no official army, but they employ former soldiers from other factions or those from the lower castes of their society to join the Raiders. These mercenaries sell their services to the scientists and the wealthy and engage in kidnapping, assassination, and escorting of delivery ships. The Raiders are infamous for their extreme violence and cruelty and serve as a threat to other factions to maintain order. While they are disorganized and loyal only to the highest bidder, their equipment is often at the forefront of Tritonian technology.
The Tritons' influence and ambition make them a force to be reckoned with in the galaxy. Their cunning and ruthless nature are matched only by their technological advancements, and they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
